History

History

The story of Bangladesh Korea Club Limited is rooted in resilience, gratitude and a deep humanitarian connection between Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea.

The journey began with the personal experience of founder Mizanur Rahman Miku, a resident of Gazipur, Bangladesh, who traveled to South Korea in the mid-1997s in search of work and opportunity. He lived and worked there for approximately six years. During this period, in 1999, he suffered a serious workplace accident that created uncertainty about his access to treatment and future well-being as an undocumented migrant worker.

At a time when he feared he might not receive proper medical care, he was supported by Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service (KCOMWEL), a government-funded organization under the Ministry of Employment and Labor of South Korea. Through this support, he received advanced medical treatment at a government hospital without cost and made a full recovery. When he later decided to return to Bangladesh, he also received a financial grant facilitated by the organization and the South Korean government.

In 2004, upon returning to Bangladesh, he used this grant to establish a pharmacy business in the heart of Gazipur city. In honor of the compassion, humanity and support he received from the people and government of South Korea, he named his business Jeil Pharmacy (제일 약국), meaning “Ideal Pharmacy” in Korean. The pharmacy continues to operate successfully today.

As his business grew, he began dedicating a portion of his earnings to support underprivileged communities, meritorious students and disadvantaged individuals in his locality. His personal commitment to social service gradually expanded into broader community initiatives.

With a desire to extend these efforts and build a lasting bridge of friendship between Bangladesh and Korea, Mizanur Rahman Miku envisioned the formation of a dedicated platform. The concept of the Club was first initiated in 2016 as a social and cultural initiative aimed at promoting expatriate welfare, cultural exchange and community service.

Initially, activities were carried out individually and informally. Over time, like-minded individuals joined the effort. By 2023, the Club had grown to 14 members, and membership continued to expand steadily, reaching 35 members as the organization moved toward formal institutional development.

Recognizing the importance of building a structured and sustainable organization, in 2025–2026 the Club entered its formal establishment phase. This phase includes membership expansion, development of an official website and completion of registration procedures under the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC), Bangladesh.

To ensure strong institutional development, global outlook and professional management, Mizanur Rahman Miku entrusted Bangladesh-born Bangladeshi American journalist, entrepreneur and organizer Julius Choudhury with the responsibility of building the Club’s legal framework, digital presence and operational structure. He also proposed Julius Choudhury to serve as president of Bangladesh Korea Club Limited, while he himself will serve as executive director.

From a single individual’s gratitude-driven social effort to a growing organization dedicated to service, friendship and cooperation, Bangladesh Korea Club Limited stands today as an emerging Bangladesh–Korea platform. It continues to move forward with the vision of strengthening humanitarian values, cultural understanding and long-term collaboration between the people of Bangladesh and Korea.
